GHI Country Strategy
The overarching vision advanced in Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland and U.S. Government joint planning is to support the transition of the Swazi public health system from an acute care to a chronic care model, while building civil society institutions to support a sustained response to HIV/AIDS well beyond the lifespan of the U.S. collaboration.

The diverse contributed assets of the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), civil society, and national and international partners are dedicated to the following focus areas:

  1. Integrating the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and maternal, newborn, and child health programming
  2. Researching for innovation

Although U.S. Government investments are limited to HIV/AIDS-centered programming, it is understood that these investments will have widely felt impacts on improved health sector functions and public health outcomes.

GHI Principles in Action – Promote Research and Innovation to Identify What Works
In Swaziland, the United States is implementing plans to leverage the research assets of globally recognized public health research institutions to build capacity within key Swazi institutions for evidence-based priority setting and improved planning and management.
